About the Shop

A Joyful Occasion is owned and operated by Freyda Libman.   Freyda grew up in the wedding world, first as an assistant to her numerous aunts and uncles in the floral business.  Her father was a retailer, and she learned all about customer service and ultimate business integrity from him. Her uncle was an executive with evening wear companies in Chicago and New York.

In 2004, while searching for her own wedding gown, Freyda realized many bridal salons do not afford their customers the service, respect, and honesty they deserve. Therefore, she began "A Joyful Occasion," with a commitment to make the bride's search for her all-important gown a truly joyful  and memorable experience.

She is skilled in matching the gown to the person: style, personality, and body type. She takes the time to honor their preferences and vision.

As a tenured (now retired) professor of English at the College of DuPage she was named teacher of the year in 2000 for her exceptional communication skills.  A published poet, she is highly creative, and cherishes her lifelong passion for fashion. Bridal fashion is the ultimate expression of that creativity.
